Rotterdam aims for regular methanol bunkering by the summer

Rotterdam, one of the top three bunkering ports in the world, expects to see regular methanol bunkering from the summer of this year.

The Dutch port reported sales of 1,500 tonnes of methanol bunkers in 2022 — 500 tonnes in the third quarter and 1,000 tonnes in the fourth quarter.

“For the first time [in 2022], some sea-going vessels bunkered methanol, but from the summer of 2023, sea-going vessels will arrive on a regular basis to bunker this fuel,” the port said.

Last year, some 10.8m tonnes of bunker fuel was supplied to shipping in the port, up from the 10.2m tonnes seen in 2021.
