APL returns first profit since 2010

Average freight income per teu grows by 22% to $969, while volume is up 4% to 2.5m teu

APL said the first half saw a healthier demand-supply balance, which contributed to improving container freight rates.

SINGAPORE-based APL, now part of CMA CGM, recorded a net profit of $78m for the first half of 2017, lifted by a container shipping market making a gradual recovery.

The performance marks APL’s first profitable half since the second half of 2010, according to the company.
