Reefer specialist Seatrade gets deeper into boxships
Operator charters more containerships for Europe to New Zealand service
Seatrade is building up a fleet of owned and chartered vessels for a new container service.
The Antwerp-based reefer specialist is taking Reederei Nord’s latest boxship newbuilding on charter for a new service using eight containerships of 2,200 teu to 2,500 teu.
It is paying around $8,550 per day for six to 10 months to take the 2,500-teu Nordamelia (built 2017), which was delivered this month from Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard.
The rate is relatively firm but reflects a fall in the charter market since the first of Nord’s ships in the series was fixed a year ago. In January 2016, the 2,500-teu Nord-isabella (built 2016) obtained around $3,000 per day more on a longer charter with Hamburg Sud for 12 to 18 months.
