Hammonia ships bag long-term charters
Maersk Line has lined-up a pair of containerships with high reefer capacity for a rare long-term fixture.
The 2,556-teu Hammonia Emden and Hammonia Husum (both built 2006) are said to have been fixed for three to four years at $11,500 per day, with delivery in September to November this year.
The ships have 600 reefer plugs and have been fixed at a significant premium to the market. Rates have been shooting up with Maersk taking a number of vessels of this design for niche trades that require a large number of reefer slots. It recently fixed the 2,566-teu Regina Star (built 2004) on extension at $10,500 per day for 12 months for its Europe-Colombia service.
