Reefer trade hits 100m tonnes but continues to lose market share to boxes
Dynamar report sees continuing shrinking of conventional fleet, particularly as fruit trades are opting for slots on container services
THE transport of fresh produce by sea broke the 100m tonne mark in 2014 but conventional reefer ship operators are expected to continue to lose market share to container lines over the coming years.
Dynamar’s annual reefer market report has revealed that an estimated 101.1m tonnes of fresh produce was transported in conventional reeferships and reefercontainers last year, accounting for 2.7% of the total seaborne trade for dry cargo.
